Doctors
Sunny Meed has 5 permanent Doctors and is host to doctors training to become GPs who spend either a year (Registrar) or 4 months (Foundation Year doctor/ Specialist Training Doctor) at the Surgery gaining experience in primary care work. They are all qualified doctors who have had a number of years experience working in Hospital. |
Dr Paul Vincent Rankin (m)
MB BCh (Belfast 1988) DGM MRCGP A full time Principal and Senior Partner, undertaking all aspects of general practice work and is a GP Trainer. He is responsible for the training and supervision of Registrars at the practice. He is also lead for minor surgery and undertakes both 'liquid nitrogen' clinics and minor surgery clinics (including joint injections) for patients registered on a weekly basis. He is named lead for Clinical and Information Governance (Caldicott Guardian) and is the Registered Manager for CQC purposes at the practice. |
Dr Sara Gil Rivas (f)
MBBS DCH (London 1994) DRCOG DFFP MRCGP Cert Diabetes (Warwick) A full time Principal at the practice undertaking all aspects of primary care work. She is lead for diabetes, having a weekly diabetic clinic on a Tuesday alongside Sister Clare Fluker. She also coordinates research at the practice (working alongside the Clinical Research Network -CRN) and represents the practice at CCG level. She is prescribing lead and is a Clinical Supervisior who oversees teaching and training of staff including Foundation Year doctors who are gaining experience of working in General Practice. |
Dr Dhrushil Patel (m)

A full time partner undertaking all aspects of GP clinical work at the practice with lead roles in safeguarding and palliative care. |
Dr Alia Sahil (f)
A GP who has been working at Sunny Meed since June 2015 and has clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She undertakes all aspects of clinical work and is a permanent member of the medical team. |
Dr Roopinder Brar (f)
A GP who undertakes all aspects of clinical work, working on Tuesdays and Fridays at Sunny Meed surgery. She is a permanent member of the medical team and books coil fittings (and removals). |
Dr Maliha Khan (f)
A fully qualified doctor completing part of her specialist GP training at Sunny Meed until December 2017. She undertakes all aspects of GP clinical work at the surgery and works Wednesdays - Fridays.
There is a formal 'handover' process in place for all doctors who leave the surgery at the end of their training placement. |

Sister Clare Fluker (f)
An experienced practice nurse undertaking all aspects of nursing care including chronic disease management. Her specialist interests include diabetes and childhood and travel vaccinations. She is a smoking cessation counsellor and can provide advice and support for weight management. |
Sister Samantha Stone (f)
An experienced practice nurse who undertakes all aspects of primary care nursing including chronic disease management. Her specialist interests include INR monitoring,offering weekly clinics to patients for near-patient testing, and research studies. She is a smoking cessation counsellor and can offer support and advice for weight management. |
Mrs Sue Carr (f)
An experienced nurse practitioner and has worked as a district nurse in the past, offering general nursing services including contraceptive implant insertions and removals at Sunny Meed. She is available for blood tests and is also available on Monday evenings between 18:30 - 20:30 for treatment room services at Sunny Meed including new patient and NHS health checks, investigations eg. ECG and smoking cessation. She has also been involved in research at the practice. |
Health Practitioners
Mrs Nipa Patel (f)
Nipa is a clinical pharmacist who can independently prescribe. She has a specialist interest and is surgery lead for respiratory care (asthma and COPD), INR near patient monitoring and denosunab therapy (for osteoporosis). She runs medication review clinics and follows up patients with hypertension and coronary heart disease. She also guides practitioners at the surgery on local prescribing guidelines and policies. Available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Fridays at Sunny Meed for respiratory, coronary heart disease, INR monitoring and medication review clinics. |
Mr Andrew Bawler (m)
Andy is a specialist paramedic with 17 years experience as a emergency care practitioner who undertakes all home visits and 'on the day' emergency clinics. He is responsible for assessing and managing all patients (including babies and children) presenting to primary care. He will lead resuscitation training for the surgery and service users as well as providing training for the recognition and management of emergencies scenarios within the family. |
Healthcare Assistants
Holly (f)
A health care assistant with a degree in nutrition and offers: phlebotomy, smoking cessation counselling, new patient and NHS Health Checks and investigations eg ECG, spirometry, INR testing. She is also able to fully support and counsel patients wishing to lose weight and advise on nutritional aspects of healthcare. She is available every weekday in addition to Thursday evenings between 18:30 - 20:30 at Sunny Meed during 'extended hours'. |
Practice Management
The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide: high quality patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care. |
Mrs Filippa Dilena (f)
AMSPAR Dip in Practice Management An experienced practice manager, having worked at the surgery for a number of years, and works closely with all staff to ensure that the surgery evolves and adapts to the changing face of the NHS. She works closely with the partners and oversees the day to day running of the surgery, staffing issues including recruitment and coordinates Patient Participation Group surveys and feedback including review of complaints. She also oversees the surgery's policies and procedures and attends CCG locality meetings. |
Reception
Receptionists will assist you in making routine and emergency appointments to see a doctor or another member of the healthcare team, undertake repeat prescriptions, answer any queries or questions that you may have and offer any assistance that they are able to. They are not trained to provide clinical advice.
Please remember that at some periods during the day, particularly Monday morning, they are extremely busy and may not be able to answer the telephone immediately and we would encourage you to use the patient access on-line booking service whenever possible to make or cancel appointments and to check results on-line where GP comments are seen.
It is a legal requirement that confidentiality of patients' records is maintained at the highest level by all staff. |
Secretaries
Jackie and Lesley make up our secretarial team and are responsible for typing letters and arranging patient referrals. They can be contacted by emailing NWSCCG.officesunnymeedsurgery@nhs.net or phoning 01483 766699. Clinicians will make referrals to both NHS and Private secondary care services. Choice of hospital and provider is offered to all patients referred in the NHS using the NHS e-Referral Service which replaced the Choose and Book service in June 2015. Please inform the referring clinician of any preferences when being referred to local services. Urgent and private referrals are faxed directly to the hospital specialist. Rebecca is responsible for the surgery Newsletter and can be contacted via e-mail if required. |
Community Midwives
Sheena Sinclair-Brown is the surgery's named community midwife whose base is at St Peter's Hospital. She offers clinics at the surgery on a Tuesday morning at Sunny Meed for antenatal bookings and on a Friday morning at Goldsworth Park for antenatal clinics. When she is not available at the surgeries she can be contacted on 01932 722413 and would like to see ladies who are pregnant ideally before they are 10-11 weeks pregnant. Community Nurses
The district nurses work very closely with the practice and are part of the primary healthcare team. They are based in the North West Surrey District Nursing Team. Their duties include visiting patients who are unable to attend the surgery in their own homes, giving practical assistance or offering professional advice. Each patient's needs are assessed and the care and treatment is planned accordingly. District nursing sisters are experienced registered general nurses with a certificate or diploma in district nursing. Health Visitors
Our health visitor, employed by Virgin Healthcare, is available for advice on healthcare and health provision for all age groups and families in the community. They run child health clinics and give advice on healthcare to expectant mothers, small children, the elderly and the handicapped. Their office is based at Goldsworth Park and they can be contacted on 01483 728201. |
